The Journey
For five hours you’ve been on the road. The city lights you saw in your rearview mirror, replaced by berry fields and orange groves, are replaced again by thick pines and cascading boulders. As you near your destination, the pavement ends. You release the gas pedal, only slightly, to accommodate the winding new terrain. Big Sur, securely hitched on the back of your truck, follows faithfully behind.
As the afternoon sun lowers, you notice a group of hikers returning from the mountaintop. They saw the beautiful vista above, but if they don’t return to their campsite now, they’ll have a rough time navigating in the dark. They’ll have to enjoy the sunset from lower ground. You pass an RV parked at the bottom of a steep incline. The people inside are warm, safe, and have all the comforts of home enclosed in their goliath metal box. But the incline is too steep for them to venture upward and enjoy a mountaintop sunset. Their journey into nature has ended.
You Push Onward.
Though steep and rocky, the incline proves no match for you and your trailer companion. Up and up you travel as one, ignoring gravity and loose earth. Your sights are set on the top. That is where you’ll be spending the night. That is where you’ll be seeing the sun set. Finally…you make it! And because of the ease in getting up the mountain, you’ve bought yourself enough time to unhitch Big Sur and breath in the fresh air. You light your gas stove, take the meat and veggies out of the fridge, and prepare the first dinner of your adventure. In minutes, the chairs are out, the canopy is raised, and your outdoor living room is all set up.
As the sun sets in the valley, you ask yourself if this is where you’ll want to spend your next day, or if there’s something spectacular beyond that distant ridge. You smile at the realization that whatever you decide, doesn’t have to be decided now. You have the freedom to choose where to go and when to do it. In this moment of liberation, you realize the boundless realm of exploration and adventures await. You have crossed over.

Our Story
You know the old saying, “ I didn’t choose this life, it chose me“? That’s our shared sentiment here at Crossover Trailers. Our introduction to the world of overlanding opened our eyes to a new way to escape, and honestly, a new way to live. As a close-knit group of friends, we always enjoyed our weekend fishing excursions or our summer camping trips, but when someone else we knew asked if he could tag along and hitch his trailer to one of our trucks, we discovered something else. We were able to enjoy the great outdoors in a way formerly unknown to us, and the fast friendships we made with those in the overlanding community proved that it was something we not only wanted to be a part of , but share with others.
The only obstacle was that not everyone we knew could afford a brand new trailer and equipment. Some of our favorite people felt held back by the price tags they saw online and eventually succumbed to the notion of “I guess it’s not for me.” That wasn’t right.
It wasn’t long before we came to the conclusion that we could set out to create our own trailers that matched the quality of the leading brands, but for a fraction of the price. We could expand the overland community by removing the commitment of a purchase and making them available to rent. We could open the doors of overlanding to our single-parent neighbor with three kids or our nephew who’s looking for a grand summer adventure before he returns to college. No one had to be left out.
Now that some years have passed, our only regret is that this life didn’t choose us sooner. However, it’s one thing to hear about it, and another to witness it firsthand.
